SUMMERSIDE, PE \u2013 Malignity was crowned king of the P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Series for horses and geldings Tuesday Night delivering a powerful performance to capture the $16,000 Gold final, presented by Kay’s Wholesale, at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.<\/p>\n
The Paul Langille\u2013trained Malicious gelding lined up in race 13 and made every call a winning one, setting fractions of 28.1, 57.2 and 1:25.4 before sealing the deal with a 28.4 closer to stop the clock in 1:54.3. Langille was in the bike behind Malignity ($3.60) for owners Debbie Francis, Rosanne Langille and Chantel Langille. Brookdale Johnny (Driven by David Dowling) was a game second while Saulsbrook Ian (Adam Merner) took third.<\/p>\n
The $10,400 Graduate Grassroots Final in race 10 was another statement win for Jack Boswall ($2.50) who was iron-tough on the front end in 1:54.2. David Dowling was in the bike for trainer Keith MacDonell and partners Mark MacDonell and Blenise Young as the Tobago Cays gelding held off Allaboutthecash (Brady Sweet) and Howmac Exclusive (Corey MacPherson).<\/p>\n
Race 7 carried a $6,000 purse for the Graduate Series Consolation and saw Woodmere Sinatra ($12.40) take advantage when favourite Freemans Legacy (Jaycob Sweet) suffered equipment issues in the final quarter. Dowling was again the pilot, guiding the Rollwithitharry gelding to victory in 1:57.2 for trainer Jenn Doyle and the Skinner ownership group of Nova Scotia. Justa Country Boy (Keith Legge) completed the triactor ticket.<\/p>\n
On the overnight side of the card, Mantario ($4.90) prevailed in the $4,700 top class, lining up in race 15, with Dowling engineering a pocket trip behind Redland Misspretty (Langille). The veteran Sportswriter gelding surged through the lane to win in 1:55 for owner Jennifer Ritchie of Kingston, N.B. Starship Glyde (Merner) was second and Redland Misspretty was third.<\/p>\n
Dowling scored four wins on the card, with Langille and Ken Murphy both notching three victories in the race bike. Trainer Greg MacInnis had a training double on the 16-dash program.<\/p>\n
